These works, which include several from my Time Machines series, are inspired by the Columbian Exposition of 1893, also known as the The White City or The Chicago World’s Fair. I have long been fascinated by the magnitude and epic scale of the White City. Among other things, this was the first public space to be illuminated by exterior electric lights, and the ferris wheel was debuted at the fair. It is said that people wept upon entering the fair, overwhelmed by the beauty of the magical environment. The White City elevated humanity by showing what could be accomplished when working together on a shared vision for the common good. With these works, I am paying homage to this marvelous creation of 1893.
